“I have been the Senior Pastor of Shelby Road Baptist Church since 1984.  My  wife and I have raised our three daughters (Robin, Jill and Katelyn) here in Shelby.  We feel privileged to have had them begin in kindergarten and graduate from high school all within the same school system – Shelby Public Schools.

My main responsibilities are preaching, teaching and leadership.  I work with the Deacon Board, Trustee Committee and the Missions Committee, oversee the Church Staff and handle the daily administration of the Church Office.  My desire is to bring a uniquely blended style of humorous storytelling and biblical exposition to the pulpit, and to present biblical messages which are pointed and easily applicable to daily life.

My philosophy of ministry can be summed up in one word – “GROW!”  I believe that Jesus meant it when He said, “I will build My church!”  Long-range planning, effective evangelism, a progressive church community, strong biblical preaching, gifted Associate Pastors and a caring atmosphere are all part of what I believe help to facilitate a growing congregation, and Shelby Road has grown – from around 70 in 1984 to around 525 today!”

“I have been on Staff at Shelby Road since 2000. My wife and I both grew up here in Shelby, and Jen has been a part of Shelby Road Baptist Church since she was saved as a teenager. She and I received our Bachelors Degree from Cornerstone University and we appreciate the rich experience of college life there. We have two sons, Ethan and Abel, who keep life interesting, and a dog who would rather just sleep! I am in charge of the Middle School Youth and all areas of Children’s Ministries. My goal in ministry, whether with teens or children, is to see them make personal steps toward a genuine faith that will serve them well into adulthood.”

“I have been on Staff at Shelby Road since January 1, 2006, and have been involved with SRBC since I was a teen and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior through the Youth Ministry here. Daphne and her family also came to Shelby Road when she was a teen, and we both graduated from Shelby High School. We each received our Bachelor degrees from Cornerstone University, and I received my Master of Divinity degree from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. We have four children – Grace, Aidan, Will and Bronwyn.  I oversee the High School Youth Program and Small Groups Ministries. My passion is to see people in the local church connect to each other and to God, and enable them to find ministry opportunities here at Shelby Road!”

I have been on staff at Shelby Road Baptist Church since March 2011. I graduated from Cedarville University with my Bachelors degree, and I met my wife Kate while I was there. I recently finished my Masters of Divinity degree at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. Kate and I are excited that we are a part of the action at Shelby Road, as we work with the senior high youth and children’s ministries. I love working with students and helping them learn more about the amazing God we serve. I have a strong desire to share Christ with students that do not know Him, and help them grow in their relationship with Him.

In his book Stand, A call for the endurance of the saints, Author John Piper recalls a conversation he had with his 86 year old father who said, “The Lord is more precious to me the older I get.” Piper’s opening chapter is entitled “Getting Old to the Glory of God”, and he quotes Psalm 71:18, “so even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, Your power to all those to come”.   I was called to become Shelby Road’s first Lay Associate Pastor in the spring of 2009, after a 33 year career in Law Enforcement. In partnership with my wife Lori, our ministry is to adults aged 60 and older.  Lori and I have been members of SRBC for over 20 years and raised our adult children here from their teens.  We count it all blessing to be servants to a growing fellowship of nearly 100 seniors; encouraging and edifying them, through the Holy Spirit, so that they might say, “I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith!”
